The highly anticipated and fan supported album from Toronto rockers Motion Device reveals these musicians' talents and prowess with their instruments, including transcendent vocals that convey the message that they want fans to hear, or more importantly, feel.

MDIV incorporates textures that may sound familiar to fans who have faithfully listened to previous releases. The album introduces the listener to strong electric guitar tones, energy driven drums and bass, juxtaposed with haunting vocals interweaved with intricate and deep lyrics.
Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Motion Device are more than just an indie rock band. It is a family affair. Sisters Sara (Vocals) and Andrea (Bass/Keys) are joined by their brother David (Drums) and cousin Josh (Guitar). Managed by their father John Menoudakis, the band impressively handles all aspects of their career.

Since publishing their first YouTube video in 2011, the band has gained a following from their covers of songs from Black Sabbath, Dio, Rush and more. Slowly, they began releasing original material that was equally admired by their fans. Some of their videos have been shared by the musicians who they have respectfully covered. It is not uncommon for up and coming bands to pay tribute to their favourites, but it is quite extraordinary when you take into account that these were essentially “kids” in those videos. At the time of posting the Black Sabbath cover Paranoid, singer Sara was only nine years old.

To exhibit such composure and confidence at that young age is a gift.  These early performances were a clear indicator that these talented youth were going to make a mark in the music industry, on both sides of the border.

Since the inception of their YouTube channel, they have amassed a loyal and supportive following who ultimately have participated in an important role in assisting the band to release their music.

Fans have contributed to highly successful Kickstarter campaigns, in which albums
and a new studio have all benefited from the generous donations. All of which is highly appreciated by the band.
Each track on MDIV flows towards the next, all while being strong enough to hold their own on individual listens. As you proceed through the sixteen tracks, it is hard at times to believe that these are young adults, just doing what they enjoy, while perfecting the sound and delivery of their music. They can easily compete with seasoned professionals twice their age.

The first single, yet last track on the album is Void. Be prepared to be taken on a musical journey filled with tension, emotions and energy.

While most songs are fading out at five minutes, Void explodes with electrifying guitar solos and continues for an additional three minutes of compelling, intricate instrumentation. Personally it is one of my favourites on the album.

Speaking of instrumentals, sandwiched between Sweet Desire and The Ocean Floor, (both of which are fantastic rock tracks), Intervention is bold, dynamic and demonstrates the musical abilities that Motion Device possess.

MDIV is a multi-layered album that features compelling lyrics, melodies backed by equally compelling guitars, keys, bass and drums.

Individually, mature beyond their years, Sara, Andrea, David and Josh are true professionals in their own right; collectively, Motion Device is an example of how hard work and dedication to their craft pays off. The band has played in various sized venues in Ontario and south of the border.

An exceptional effort from Motion Device, MDIV is an album that promises that there is a future for rock and roll. An engaging collection of tracks on a first class produced album deserves to be in every music fan’s collection.

I  was first introduced to Motion Device when I was sent a piano cover of ‘Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You’, by Andrea Menoudakis, billed as Daydreamer Music to be shared on my Led Zeppelin fan page on Facebook.

Andrea's version is both haunting and beautiful, so much so that long time Zeppelin fans were astounded by her interpretation of the classic tune that appeared on Led Zeppelin's debut album.

Her latest video, a breathtaking cover of Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper is equally mesmerizing.

You can follow Andrea/Daydreamer Music on Facebook and YouTube.
