Guelph’s River Run Centre became a lot more ‘Hip’ with help from
premiere tribute to Canada’s Band.

For 28 years, ‘The Almost Hip’  have been playing to crowds non-stop throughout Canada honouring the late Gord Downie and songs that so many Canadians love and can relate to. Since their first show in the fall of 1990 in a small Kitchener bar, the band continues to be in demand and plays their fair share of outdoor festivals, casinos, theatres, clubs, and private functions throughout the year.

Last night, Craig Dougan (vocals), Paul Woods (guitar), Paul Hoffman (drums), Joel Hoffman (guitar) and Kevin Gingrich (bass) delivered
the landmark debut Tragically Hip album ‘Up To Here’ in its entirety.
From the opening hypnotic note of ‘Blow at High Dough’, to the final lyric of ‘Opiated’ they were on fire and the crowd at the historic
Guelph theatre thoroughly enjoyed it.

‘Up To Here’, was the Hip’s critically acclaimed debut album, released September 5, 1989. It has achieved diamond status in Canada and
still remains a fan favourite ‘go to’ album. Singles ‘Blow At High Dough’ and ‘New Orleans is Sinking’ both reached number 1 on the RPM Canadian content charts. ’38 Years Old’. ‘Boots or Hearts’ and
‘Trickle Down’ still receive heavy rotation on radio stations.

In between songs, Craig provided the audience with facts and details about each song. Some amusing stories, some personal stories, and even some audience participation when asked who had seen the Hip live and where.

After a short intermission, the band returned and began to run through a setlist of some of the Hip’s greatest and beloved tunes. ‘Grace, Too’, ‘Poets’, ‘Boots or Hearts’, ‘Cordelia’, just to name a few had the crowd singing and clapping along.
